The Fish Tail Stool was inspired by the bonefish. Bonefish are saltwater fish that inhabits shallow coastal and island waters in tropical sea. CNC machining allowed me to capture the fluidity of the bonefish with accuracy.
The machining process leaves behind faint tool paths, intentional traces that speak to both the digital process and the natural inspiration. The piece is CNC milled from 18 mm plywood sheets that are doubled to create a 36 mm thickness. Lamination using adhesive gives the stool a sense of weight and structural confidence.
The result is a stool that is a study in movement as if it could shift or glide at any moment and where biology, craftsmanship, and technology meet
